Forty candidates stand for eight seats on Progress’ new strategy board

Nominations for the elections to Progress’ new strategy board closed last month, with 40 candidates now standing for a place.

The ballot, which opened on 1 September, will close on 26 September at 12pm. The results will be announced the following day.

The board is being elected by all members of Progress in three sections. In the first, members of Progress will elect four representatives; in the second, parliamentarians who are members of Progress will elect four representatives; in the third, councillors who are members of Progress will elect four representatives.

In the parliamentarians’ section, Oona King, a member of the House of Lords, and MPs Gloria De Piero, Nick Smith and Phil Wilson have all been elected unopposed.

Eight places are, however, still to be elected in the members’ and local government sections.

The process is being conducted by independent scrutineers Opt2Vote on behalf of Progress. A dedicated website for the election has been established by them at http://progress.allvotingmatters.com
It contains a full list of candidates, their 250-word statements, and a discussion forum to allow members to quiz them. All candidates also have the opportunity to write up to two articles on ProgressOnline during the course of the campaign.

As in elections to Labour’s National Executive Committee, multi-member first past the post will apply. Members of the strategy board will be elected for a two-year term. In each section, at least two women will be elected.
