John Woodcock’s message to Progress members and supporters following his election as the new chair of Progress

Dear friend,

I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as your new chair by the strategy board and looking forward to getting stuck into the role helping deliver the Labour general election victory our communities desperately need.

We should all be very proud of the contribution Progress members make on the doorstep and in the debate about how to change our country. Thanks to the work you do, we champion the kind of Labour party that mainstream activists up and down the country give up their time and money for: a party that is inclusive, hungry for new ideas and in touch with the people we want to serve.

In short, we represent the centre of gravity in Ed Miliband’s Labour party. Progress is the natural home for mainstream Labour activists and I am looking forward to helping the organisation get that message across loud and clear in the year ahead.

I look forward to hearing your ideas at our annual conference at the end of the month – come along if you can!

Best wishes,

John Woodcock MP
