My majority in Burton is notionally 2,100 and we are therefore number 43 on the Tory target list. Burton is truly a fantastic constituency, the home of British Brewing, the birthplace of Branston pickle and whether you love it or hate it, the base of Marmite. We also have Fox’s biscuits, Pirelli Tyres and JCB. The latter also makes Burton the home of the Midlands Industrial Council, so on top of the undeclared donations from Ashcroft my opponent is rolling in cash from JCB, the Midlands Industrial Council and Colehill Press. So much so that he has just invested in a personalised car… (grainy photo attached) and some very attractive Christmas cards which went to every house (except mine – I wonder why?).
At the last general election we fought a hard fight and held Burton against all odds – the Tories spent more money during the short campaign in Burton then any other seat in the country. And now it is time to repeat the feat, but campaigning costs money and whilst we are never going to be able to match Ashcroft and his millions, only £500 will help me put out a leaflet to cover all of Uttoxeter which is where my opponent is residing.
In Uttoxeter because of Tory incompetence
(to put it politely) each household is having to pay an additional £40 council tax, an increase of 94 per cent. Cameron said, judge me on the way we run our councils, well help me make sure the electorate do just that.
