I have been the MP for Gloucester since
2001. No one was more surprised by this
than my local newspaper who commented after my selection that “Labour can kiss goodbye to this seat … many of the voters have yet to reach the advanced state of consciousness to accept a foreigner as their local MP.” I’m glad the people of Gloucester proved themselves to be better than this, and I have been very proud to serve as their MP during a time when our city has changed out of all recognition. We have a £30 million new hospital, a redeveloped retail centre at the quays, a new police station and more teachers than ever before.

As a marginal seat, the Tories are gunning for Gloucester and over the last few months and over the last few months we’ve been inundated with Tory literature, from glossy magazine-style localised leaflets to newsletters. A lot of this literature is not being delivered by the hands of volunteers but comes by paid delivery.

We are responding with the best recourse we have – our dedicated local team of volunteers. We send out weekly emails to both our members and our twinned seats, who are very supportive and come out and help whenever they can. We have big ‘Super Saturday’ campaign days every week but with limited time and funds it’s hard to get our literature out as quickly as the Conservatives.

The next leaflet that we want to get out focuses on the stories of real local Gloucester people and how a Labour government has helped make improve their lives. Any money you could donate to this leaflet would really help this campaign.
