Following a 33 per cent turnout this is the first test of Labour voters and their support for the future leadership of the Labour party. The result of this ballot also gives credibility to its winner and gives them added impetus to their election campaign.
Commenting on Bassetlaw’s Primary John Mann MP said:
“this was the only ballot of Labour voters in the country. For Labour to win power in the future they must start listening to its voters again”
Full results were:
David Miliband 50.3 per cent
Ed Miliband 20.2 per cent
Ed Balls 15.4 per cent
Andy Burnham 7.7 per cent
Diane Abbott 6.5 per cent
I shall not be voting for David Millibrand becasue of his very neo con speech to Foriegn Office staff when he became FS. After that he seemed to disappear. Did he actually do anything? My second reason is that he sent me by post a campaign letter which raises two questions. Who paid for this? And why hasn’t he given the money that paid for this to the Party. I sent the letter back ‘delivery refused’ as I will do with all letters from sent by any candidate. As a unionist I expect each candidate’s election address to be included with the ballott paper by the Party at the election. I am sure candidates will have made a genereous donation to the Party to cover the cost of the election.
