Highlight of 2010
Labour not going crazy after election defeat. We broke the cycle of 1931, 1951, 1970 and 1979 by not lurching to the left and having a leadership election fundamentally between four mainstream candidates and conducted without rancour.
Lowlight of 2010
The Byers-Hoon-Hewitt lobbygate scandal. Three people who had made a big contribution as ministers falling for a sting operation that damaged their reputations and the party’s.
Political prediction for 2011
The Scottish, Welsh and local elections in May will see Labour win big and Ed Miliband come into his own as a winning campaigner.
Alison McGovern, MP for Wirral South
Highlight of 2010
Reading in my local paper that the Tory I beat to parliament never believed he would lose to me – until he did. We had a great team in Wirral and they deserved my surprise result.
Lowlight of 2010
Watching the Tories take apart our support for young people. First Future Jobs Fund, now EMA and youth services look vulnerable. Very depressing.
Political prediction for 2011
Cameron and co will try to hype up the Ashes, Royal Weddings, and any minor sporting or cultural events in attempt to hide how they are running Britain down with their counterproductive cuts
Kathryn Perera, writer and former Labour PPC
Highlight of 2010
Seeing a fantastic generation of Labour MPs elected to Parliament, with bright stars such as Stella Creasy and Rachel Reeves leading the way.
Lowlight of 2010
The Hoon-Hewitt plot to dethrone Brown: embarrasingly ramshackle and the nadir of all that led the public to think Labour was more interested in internal intrigue that engaging with national problems.
Political prediction for 2011
Labour will press hard at the May local elections and put considerable strain on Lib Dems who have so far kept to the official line.
Richard Angell, deputy director, Progress
Highlight of 2010
Keeping Ashok Kumar’s former seat Labour by helping ensure Tom Blenkinsop was elected to represent Middlesbrough south and east Cleveland, where I was the organiser, and watching the screens seeing Stephen Twigg returned as Labour MP for Liverpool West Derby
Lowlight of 2010
Labour losing government obviously…. Other than that, seeing the steelworks mothballed in Redcar (thank God this is going to reopen)
Political prediction for 2011
There will be a Labour first minister in Wales and in Scotland, more Labour councils after May. But we must fight the complacency that these victories might inspire and focus on the important task of winning a Labour government in 2015.
Have you noticed how every presumes we’re going to win everything in May. That could be dangerous.
Wales will not be that easy, we now have more Tory MP’s then ever, which should be shocking, and if we have serious boundary changes, then Labour may well struggle. We have Labour Wales telling people look we have clear red water between labour England, what the hell does that mean, what England has a Tory labour party, we already knew that. I doubt people will ever again see a country in which the poor are looked after, be it Tory or labour but win the Lottery or be born rich England the place for you. I’ve decided to vote for the naughty party from now on Plaid.
