As part of the Campaign for a Labour Majority, Progress is holding a series of events with socialist societies throughout the autumn to look at how, in the run up to the 2015 election, Labour can build a broad coalition of support that speaks to the concerns of people across the country and that will give an incoming Labour government a working majority. This joint event with the Jewish Labour Movement will also look at the particular policy issues concerning Jewish voters in the UK that Labour needs to address to win a strong working majority
Labour will almost certainly win, but many are wondering if we will see any difference?
Labour started the “war” against benefits claimants, sure the Tories took that up with glee, but we were heading this way under Labour anyway.
What is needed is a way to get people thinking about politics again. That means a plurality of views. since the majority of people get the majority of information from rightwing newspapers, they tend to get only one side of any argument most of the time.
The T.U.C. poll published earlier this year in the Independent showed clearly that this has distorted the view of the world that most people have, and to an alarming degree.
This state of affairs has obviously pushed Labour further and further to the right. This must be resisted. As we saw with “new Labour”, though some good can be done, the pretense of being right wing was slowly, but surely, turning into reality.
Whatever “master plan” Gordon Brown had was sunk by the crunch and now the left are feeling abandoned again.
Fairness, should be the watchword of Labour. Fairness under law, fairness in opportunity and a fair share of wealth for all.
Most of all, it means a fair access to information. I believe that the people of this country, any country for that matter, are fair-minded, but unless they have both sides of any argument, how can they make a “fair” judgement on what to chose?
This must be a priority for Labour. We need a plurality of voices, with the same level of access to the channels of talking to the electorate.
the can and THEY WILL ED has a heart for the people it will be a MAJORITY if he keeps on this path especially about the DISABLED x
