While the media obsesses about the mood in Westminster, ordinary party members across the country are not going to get distracted from the main task in hand: grinding out a win on the doorstep. One conversation at a time.

It is easy to get disheartened by turbulence at the top of the party. But Labour remains the electoral force it is because our brilliant activists keep going no matter what the weather.

We know that is true when the actual weather is bad. We should also recognise the same applies to stormy political weather.

When the Progress team went to Rochester on Wednesday with vice-chairs Liz Kendall and Alison McGovern we were greeted by what we see at every byelection – a campaign room buzzing with the energy of leaflet rounds rather than plotting or despair.

So, the best antidote to gloom triggered by leadership speculation over the weekend? Come and join us on our three seats challenge in Harlow, Enfield North, and Hornsey and Wood Green. All are welcome; we promise it will be fun, friendly and fulfilling. We know hard work makes the different so come join us or good luck campaigning in your nearest marginal seat.
