21st-23rd May, Young Fabian campaigning weekend in the North-West The Young Fabians are organising a trip to Burnley to help campaign in the forthcoming European Elections. Accomodation will be provided and we hope to hold seminars on subjects such as cultural diversity and the history of the Labour movement in the North-West. This is a new part-time position of 22∏ hours a week in Anne Campbell’s constituency office. The hours worked would constitute 60% of a full time post. This could be worked on a short day basis each day (eg 10am until 3pm) or full time during school terms with time off during school holidays
Anne Campbell MP employs a full-time office manager and a part-time public relations manager at her Cambridge office. The successful candidate will be responsible to Anne’s office manager. Anne also employs a Parliamentary research assistant based in the Westminster office.
The Cambridge Labour Party is an active vibrant Party consisting of some 700 members. The Party owns the Alex Wood Hall in which Anne Campbell’s office Is located and employs a full-time organiser who is based in the same building. Cambridge City Council is currently under the control of the Liberal Democrats and the County Council is under the control of the Conservatives. Cambridge CLP will be fighting to regain control of the City Council in the all-out elections to be held in 2004. The person appointed will be a Labour Party member or willing to join the Labour Party.
Training will be given. Salary is in accordance with the rates of pay recommended for this type of work by the House of Commons Fees Office. For a full-time post this would be in the range £11,630 – £20,000 pa and the salary will depend on the experience and qualifications of the person appointed.
Job Description
The post consists of the following tasks:
Correspond with constituents or meet with them
* Provide information, advice and support for individuals on a range
of financial, health, housing and other social issues
* Liaise with government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve problems
* Develop knowledge on specialist areas
* Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports
* Keep records of client contact
Personnel Specification
The person who is appointed will have the following attributes:
* excellent organisational and planning skills;
* good interpersonal and customer service skills;
* good IT skills especially using email and the Internet
* the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
* an understanding of the political environment.

James Plaskitt MP needs a Parliamentary researcher in his Westminster
office. The post begins in September 2004 and is for one year. The position is part time, based on three days a week (usually Monday – Wednesday) The salary is £15,000 (based on £25,000 full time scale).
The applicant should have a particular interest in and aptitude for economic policy, in order to assist with the MP’s work on the Treasury Committee. The post holder will also assist with selected constituency issues. Expertise in managing a web site will be highly desirable. The post holder will need to demonstrate ability to work independently, under time pressure.
