Paul’s Week in Politics Articles

God’s Politicians

As we’ve spent most of the week appalled by the activities of people at one end of the moral spectrum, it is reassuring to remind ourselves of the people at the other end.

Why Ed was right to say strike was wrong

As thousands of retail and bank workers face imminent job losses, and Labour’s leader thinks to projecting himself as leader of the nation, Ed Miliband was right to say yesterday’s strike was wrong.

Unfinished business

Labour’s national policy forum gathers this weekend. It’s not being held in secret, but it is being held in Wrexham. I’ve never been to the town which can proudly boast that it’s ‘the fourth biggest in Wales’. I’m told there’s a decent gothic church with a Burne-Jones window, dedicated to St Giles, the patron saint of futile Labour party meetings.

New Labour is for now

I’ve been staying this week in Baron’s Court, in west London. Near Baron’s Court tube is a memorial to PC Stephen Tibble, a policeman killed in 1975. It’s one of the many simple commemorative stones placed by the Police Memorial Trust on the London sites where metropolitan police officers have died doing their jobs.
