Working in Westminster, your main responsibilities will be drafting policy letters and briefings, speech writing, dealing with press both reactively and proactively, and supporting Jean in her Parliamentary work as Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party and Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Human Rights.

This position would suit a Labour Party member with knowledge of Parliamentary procedures and a keen interest in policy issues and current affairs.

Description: Well-qualified, motivated individual sought for full-time Research and administrative post in busy Westminster office of Mark Lazarowicz, Labour/Co-op MP for Edinburgh North & Leith.

Main responsibilities to include: Preparation of briefings and policy letters on variety of policy issues (domestic and international); occasional in-depth research projects, as directed by MP; drafting/monitoring of Parliamentary questions; press work, including drafting and issuing of press releases; general administrative support for MP at Westminster.

The ideal candidate would have the following profile: A graduate or post-graduate with an interest in British politics and the workings of the British political system. Strong analytical and research skills. Excellent communication skills, and an ability to develop and maintain contacts with outside organisations.  Good knowledge of IT. Previous experience of work in a political environment (e.g. employment, voluntary or internship) (desirable).
